Message from our President

Developing, Building, Growing WITESOL

...In a short while you will receive an email survey to complete. We would like to gather as much input as possible from members in order to better determine what is working well in WITESOL and what other additional needs and desires members may have. Please take a moment or two to carefully consider the questions and to add comments when filling this out. Your input is valuable to us and will be used to help guide our discussions and future goals. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. A summary of the retreat will be posted on the website for viewing and response.
   I know many of you are probably in the midst of wrapping up yet another school year of teaching. As I think of the lives that so many of you have touched, and have been touched by, I feel privileged to be a part of this community. Your work is to be admired and celebrated and I wish for each of you now a well deserved summer break - and for those of us still working this summer, I hope for at least a slower paced schedule! We look forward to seeing all of you at the annual conference when we return in the Fall.

Wisconsin TESOL Annual Conference

“A Cross-World Puzzle: Exploring the Interconnectedness of Language,Culture, and Community"

Keynote Speaker

The conference aims to bring together K-adult educators to discuss and share ways to foster the integrated nature of language and culture in our classrooms and communities. It is an opportunity to initiate and sustain meaningful professional dialog across programs, levels, and setting. All classroom educators, administrators, coordinators and specialists are most welcome!

 

The conference planning committee requests presentation submissions addressing any of the following cultural connections:

  • Ways of connecting with our communities
  • Connecting our classrooms to the cultures of our students
  • Integrating culture into our curriculum
  • How language, culture and community are interconnected
  • Connecting the ELL and mainstream classroom teachers
  • The connection of identity to language
  • How academic content areas connect to specific language features and vocabulary
  • How to connect best practice with the reality of our schools
  • Other related topics

Is your WITESOL Membership Current?
To renew, go to our webpage... To see if your membership expires this year on September 30, check the label on your newsletter. If it says '08, then your membership will expire at the end of September. For those of you who have been long term members and have recruited members throughout the years, thank you for your efforts! Welcome to our new members! We all have a great deal to be proud of as our TESOL affiliate grows in membership.
